Foreign tourists contribute to generate significant revenue to wildlife sector

The Wildlife Department has received a record income from tourists who came in luxury passenger liners, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.

He said 551 tourists on the ship that arrived on November 30 visited the Yala National Park in 110 vehicles. Accordingly, the wildlife department had earned Rs. 6,219,560 on that day.

The super luxury passenger liner ‘Mein Schiff 5’ arrived at the Port of Colombo on November 30, bringing over 2,000 passengers and 945 crew members.

86 tourists on board the ship that docked in on December 5 visited Yala Park in 18 vehicles. The department earned Rs. 981,981 in revenue. According to the minister, only 148 local tourists visited during these two days.

The Minister instructed the Wildlife Department to open more ticket counters so that they get maximum time to visit the Yala National Park when foreign tourists visit.
